It was bound to happen: Nathan's easy-going personality had to cross with the independent phase of toddlerhood. And, basically, it all happened within the course of three days.
On Friday he started clearly saying "no" to questions like, "Do you want more toast?" (I found this development helpful, actually.) By Sunday he was saying "no" with authority and in response to non-questions like, "C'mon, Nathan. It's time to go inside." (No longer helpful.)
As an aside, around the same time, he became obsessed with jumping. He constantly tries to jump -- which is more like a fall/step -- off of step stools and boxes. When we went out to dinner on Sunday night, between every bite (of ketchup mostly) he pointed out things that he considered jump-able, told me "jump" and then gave a little bounce in the highchair to show me what he intended to do (after he finished his plate of ketchup). And later that night when Caitlyn pushed him off of a step stool, he didn't cry because of the fall. He cried because I carried him away before he was done jumping.
Little, independent daredevil.

Too funny... only funny because it hasn't happened in my household yet!
