She is infatuated with chapter books -- loving when we read them to her and when she pages through them to find the "sight words" she knows from school. And while she still enjoys Curious George and will even pause to watch Nathan's beloved Dora the Explorer, her favorite shows and movies are now about action heros, and she soaks up tween sitcoms if we give her the chance. She's even trading in her playtime preferences for card games and intricate art projects.
Then there's her appearance -- so tall and long limbed and almost coltish -- that it repeatedly catches us by surprise.
But there are still moments that remind us that she's only five ... when she uses her adorable versions of words like "plauser" (for bookmark, apparently derived from the word pause), "aminal" (for animal; she swears that she has the ability to talk with our pets), and "cacacaloon" (for cocoon; her fascination with bugs is going strong). And when she asks to sit on our laps to watch a show or wants someone to snuggle with her in bed. We're well aware of how fleeting these moments are, so we're enjoying them all!

Beyond the start of school (and homework!), the fall has been busy with sports (gymnastics for Caitlyn; soccer for Nathan) and birthday, anniversary and Halloween celebrations. These are days to remember!
